CHRISTIAN MARTIN
Christian Martin, born December 17, 1954, graduated from the Institut Français de Photographie, class of 1972. After working as an assistant at the Carnot studio, he began selling paintings on the Place du Tertre and in the USA. In 1979, he became Francis Giacobetti’s assistant, and from 1980 he worked for Lui magazine, where he took charge of the auto section. His collaborations extend to Elle, Auto Journal, Newlook, VSD, L’Équipe Mag, Gala, Vélo Mag, Jeune & Jolie, Sport Auto, Auto Plus, Automobiles Classiques, Rétroviseur, Auto-Rétro… He also works for manufacturers such as Peugeot-Citroën, Audi, Opel and BMW. Christian Martin is the author of a dozen books devoted to his automotive passion.
JEAN-MARC THEVENET
Jean-Marc Thévenet, born on July 16, 1955, is a publisher, comic strip scriptwriter, television producer, exhibition curator and former director of the Angoulême Festival (from 1998 to 2006). His career in the automotive industry began in August 1964, when he graced the cover of L’Automobile magazine (issue no. 220), posing next to engineer Carlos Chiti’s copy no. 1 of the ATS. In 1987, he published “1960, les années de chrome” (1960, the chrome years), a tribute to a decade in which the automobile, in all its forms (cinema, fashion, advertising, major works, etc.), was buoyed by the enthusiasm of the Trente Glorieuses. After a long detour into the world of comics, he returns to the automobile for a fine book to be published by Hachette/EPA in 2019 with historian Patrick Lesueur, “L’Art Automobile”, a biographical book on the career of Maître Hervé Poulain, Honorary Chairman of Artcurial, initiator of modern art cars and his iconic auctions. Since 2020, this book has been presented as part of the European Heritage Days at the Château de Neuville in Gambais.
